When you embark on a new marketing campaign, it’s unlikely that everyone on your member list will regularly engage with your content. Some members will never open any of your mailings, while others will open a few and then stop. Both of these types of members are considered “unengaged” - in other words, they’re not engaging with your content.

While this is disappointing, there’s another layer to the issue that you might not realize: The more members you have on your list that consistently do not open your mailings, the less likely it is that your mailings will be successfully delivered to other inboxes through that same email provider. For example, let’s say you have ten addresses on your member list using Gmail. Four of these members have never opened your mailings, (one even marks it as spam,) and two others opened the first three but then haven’t opened the last several. Gmail’s AI will start to view all your mailings as spam and might automatically send your newsletters and OnTargets directly to everyone’s spam folder. That’s obviously not the outcome you were hoping for!

To prevent this from happening, you will want to keep your list clean of members who don’t engage with your content. IndustryNewsletters is dedicated to protecting your sending reputation, and making sure your mailings are delivered to the most members on your list.

According to our policy:

  • Members on your list who have never engaged with your content, and who have been sent ten mailings, (newsletters or OnTargets,) will automatically be unsubscribed as “unengaged” (also referred to as “suppressed”)

  • Previously engaged members who have not opened any of your last sixteen mailings, (newsletters or OnTargets,) will also be automatically unsubscribed as “unengaged” (or “suppressed”)

  • If an “unengaged” (or “suppressed”) member opens any content you’ve sent them previously, they will automatically be resubscribed as an active member on your list

In addition to these automated list management strategies provided by the IndustryNewsletters platform, we suggest following best practices for keeping your member list clean to further ensure the deliverability of your content:

  • Don’t use email addresses from unknown sources

  • Consider confirming a member’s address if you haven’t had an email conversation with them in a while

  • Post your IndustryNewsletters signup URL on your website and social media to automatically register new members (located on your dashboard when you log into the platform)
